Committee was formed after the collapse and subsequent fire on January 10, 1860, of the Pemberton Mill, a cotton mill owned by the Pemberton Manufacturing Company of Lawrence, Mass. Eighty-eight workers were killed and 315 were injured. The committee included Daniel Saunders, Jr., Charles S. Storrow, Henry K. Oliver, William C. Chapin, John C. Hoadley, John Rollins, and George P. Wilson. Its purpose was to investigate the victims' condition and to administer and distribute relief funds received....
